Where the support actually comes from

A flat, rectangular cushion spreads your weight evenly across the whole seat — which sounds good, but it means the tailbone and lower back get the same treatment as everywhere else, instead of the relief they specifically need. The cutout in this cushion is shaped to do the opposite: reduce direct contact under the tailbone while the surrounding foam takes on more of that weight, and the raised back edge gives the lower back something to settle into instead of just resting on a flat pad.
